Pakistan • Cause- Territory and Different Religions • Key Points-Have fought numerous times since 1947 • -Both powers have nuclear weapons • -Deep distrust and hate between these nations • Kashmir- Disputed area between China, India, and Pakistan • Line of Control- cease fire line in Kashmir that is disputed

  2. China and Tibet • Cause- Territory/Boundary dispute • Key points- China invaded Tibet in the 1950’s • Tibet has natural resources like water • Tibet’s culture is very different than China’s, but both are Buddhist.

  3. Thailand • Cause: Political Upheaval/money- • Key points- Unstable government, has been plagued by protests. • Rich minority are facing opposition from the large poor majority

Indonesia • Cause- Terrorism/political unrest/different ethnic groups • Key Points- The largest Muslim country in the world has many Ethnic groups in the 17,00o island archipelago. • weak government, corruption, and very poor populations make it a hot bed for terrorism. • Radical Islam is moving in

South Korea • Cause- Territorial Dispute/Self Determination • Key Points- U.N/U.S. forces entered the Korean war in 1950 side on the side of the South(Korean War) • MZ- De-Militarized Zone- most heavily defended border in the World • Big UN involvement in Korean War • UN- United Nations- problem solving organization- also promotes Human Rights, Food Aid, Disaster Relief besides Peace Keeping

  7. Philippines • Cause: Terrorism/Different Religions • Key Points: Weak rule in some of the islands • Muslim people are an unhappy minority. 10% • Majority of Filipinos are Roman Catholic. • Muslim groups inhabit some of the Southern Islands in the chain especially Mindanao.

  8. Afghanistan • Cause: Different religions/ terrorism • Key Points: Invaded by U.S.S.R in 1979 and the United States in 2001. • Radical Islam • Few Natural Resources

  9. China v. Taiwan • Cause: Boundary/Territorial Dispute • Key points- Communist China believes that Taiwan should be a part of China. Taiwan wants to be free. • U.S has guaranteed Taiwan’s safety. • China says U.S. should stay out of its business.
