  1. GurbakshChahal on how corporate companies can help prevent sex trafficking

  2. In every society, families and individuals experience vulnerabilities to human trafficking. Homelessness, poverty, broken families, substance abuse, isolation, low self-esteem, unsafe social media exposure, and developmental delays are life experiences that place an individual at an increased risk of exploitation. In the last decade, the sex trafficking issue has garnered enhanced attention in the mainstream media, and among corporate and academic sectors. GurbakshChahal, a serial entrepreneur and a philanthropist has dedicated a fully registered non-profit organization called “The Chahal Foundation.” This global foundation spreads consciousness around social causes, offering university scholarships and mentorships, while also building awareness to help eradicate child sex trafficking, supporting disaster relief efforts, and improving schools in third world countries.

  3. This sex trafficking issue affects women, men, and kids internationally. It can affect any sector, whether in construction, agriculture, manufacturing, electronics, retail, or in travel and tourism. And any corporation can adopt tactics to help end the problem. Here are a few suggestions: • Employee training programs emphasize the issue of human trafficking and empower them to report apprehensive activities to management and law enforcement. Several organizations work with corporations to help with sector-specific materials, training content, and implementation. • If corporate leadership takes a stand to fight trafficking, it lights a spark all through the company. Leadership has the capability to set the stage for anti-trafficking tactics and initiatives not only within the company, but externally all through an entire sector. When one corporate leader makes a bold move, others can follow to create a wave of alteration.

  4. Both employees and management can engage in philanthropic efforts to help anti-human trafficking efforts. Companies can make employee campaign funds specifically chosen to fight human trafficking. Corporate and family foundations also offer much-required funding for anti-trafficking organizations. • Every vendor and supplier must be required to sign a contract saying that they will not knowingly engage in sex and/or labor trafficking. • Launching a company or hosting corporate volunteer day’s initiative engages employees in the fight against human trafficking. Corporations can reach out to their neighboring anti-trafficking organizations in the community to find out the greatest local needs.

  5. Partner with both civil and public society entities to see what pressing resources are required. Corporations can make a lasting difference via a variety of means, and not essentially just financial. • Involve customers in this cause. For instance, the travel and tourism industry can educate customers to spot and report trafficking incidents via awareness language on travel itineraries. • GurbakshChahalsays that it will take a multi-tier and multi-sectoral approach to get rid of human trafficking. Through outreach, partnership, and community involvement, industry can make dynamic and systemic change in the war on human trafficking.
