Study Skills/Grades • Organization of desk and notebooks/journals • Planner - Daily, weekly, long term assignments • Time management • All assignments are recorded in my gradebook. You should see graded assignments/homework coming home weekly. • Preparation of students towards greater independence for middle school
Reading Experiences • Balanced literacy instruction in Reading- • Whole-Class Lessons: teaches skills needed to be successful 5th grade readers • Shared reading: builds community and communication skills • Guided reading: teaches specific skills to targeted group of students • Independent reading: addresses individual tastes and reading levels and promotes being a lifelong reader! • Reader’s workshop- Fiction/Non-Fiction teaching of comprehension strategies aligned with Common Core • Scholastic News-current events Magazine with skill practice
