  1. Blood and Lymph *Students know organ systems function because of the contributions of individual organs, tissues, and cells. The failure of any part can affect the entire system.

  3. Red Blood Cells • Red blood cells • hemoglobin • Take up oxygen in the lungs and deliver it to cells elsewhere in the body • An iron containing protein that binds chemically to oxygen molecules

  4. White blood cells & Platelets • White blood cells • Platelets • Are the body’s disease fighters • Cell fragments that play an important part in forming blood clots

  5. Blood volume • Blood volume • shock • An average adult has about 5 liters of blood. You have about 2.5-4 liters of blood. • The failure of the circulatory system to provide an adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood to all parts of the body
