Balancing calories • Enjoy your food, but eat less! • Avoid oversized portions. • How many calories are you supposed to have a day? • Girls: 1800 • Boys: 2200 • What happens if I don’t get all my calories? • Not getting enough calories will result in you gaining weight because it slows down your metabolism.

  4. Foods to increase • Make half your plate fruits and vegetables. • Make at least half your grains whole grains. • Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk. • Equal calcium, less fat • Your plate should be an array of colors!

Foods to reduce • Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals – and choose the foods with lower numbers. • Drink water instead of sugary drinks • How much of our body is water? • 70% > half your body weight • Water is key to > digestion, perspiration, immune system • What food products contain water?
