  14. Overview • Over 89% of budget request honored by the fees committee (unanimous decision) $107,000 budget • Cuts in budget request were made: • Leadership and Faculty Award Plaques ($700) • Co-Sponsoring Pool ($1000) • GEC Rep Stipends ($1500) • New Fixed Travel Grant Program ($5000) • Appreciation Week ($5000)

GAPSA Budget • Initial deliberations, only 47% of budget request honored because of refusal to answer questions • After pressure from executive board, responded to questions, reinstating pass-through funding but providing 35% penalty for lateness, resulting in 53% funding levels • Assessed to all GRD students as well as professional students • Total fee level: about $27

  16. Operational Expenses • $1800 in Payroll Taxes • $6842 in Officer Stipends • $15,000 in administrator salary • $23,642 total, or approximately 22% of budget

  17. Grant Programming • Competitive Travel Grant Program ($60,000) • Fixed Amount Travel Grant ($22,500) • Intellectual Community Building ($5000) • Social Community Building ($5000)

  19. Potential Options Remaining • Leave the budgets as is ($3-4 increase in total fee) • Appeal the assessing of the GAPSA fee to GRD students • Ask GAPSA to reduce their budget by $50,000 • Reduce our budget by about $25,000 (potentially by eliminating redundant grant programs)

Career Networking Workshops • Friday, April 4, 2014      9:00 - 11:30 a.m.                             McNamara Alumni Center • 200 Oak Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455 • Meet representatives from industry, business, government and non-profits – up to 80 companies and organizations are expected to attend. • Connect with executives and recruiters interested in meeting graduate students, postdocs and alumni from all academic disciplines considering career options. • Bring your business card or résumé and network with employers who have regional, national and international presence. • Option to attend employer panels focusing on job-search strategies. This event is free, but registration is required. Space is limited. Registration deadline isApril 1 or until we reach capacity.  The names of employers attending the event will be available on the registration website in mid-March.

  32. Election of New Senators

  33. SENATOR Senators are elected from the graduate student body to serve as voting members on the Student Senate, the University Senate, and the GAPSA General Assembly. The number of senators varies from year to year (between ten and five) Because of the timing of these meetings, it is entirely possible to ‘split’ the position into Senator and GAPSA GA Rep. Elected: at the April/May GA meeting. Term begins/ends on June 30th Routine duties include: attending Student Senate meetings, University Senate meetings, and GAPSA General Assembly meetings; communicating topics to the general assembly of COGS and results back to it, attending COGS general assembly meetings; notifying the Executive Vice President of necessary absences. Optional duties include: attending COGS executive board meetings; participating in COGS-sponsored events; serving on Senate committees. The Executive Vice President serves as the head of the senate ‘slate’ and is responsible for organizing communication between senators. Senators may also serve as College Delegation Leads. Estimated Time Commitment: 4-6 hours monthly at routine meetings
