Geographic Information • Chile is located in the southern portion of South America. • It is about twice the size of Montana (USA) • Climate: North=desert; Central=Mediterranean; South=Seasonal, though always more cool than Northern Chile. • Resources: Precious metals, copper, wood, iron • Terrain: Large range of terrain. Historical Events • Chile declared independence in 1810 but they didn’t really have full control until 1818 • War of the Pacific (1879-1883), Chile finally took down Peru and Bolivia gained control of some new northern regions of its country. • Chile had a democratic rule until 1973. The military then took charge of the country but later in 1989, the democratic rule came back.
