Documents of reference and identified limitations • Proposed methodology: reuse what is already available and complement existing documents on new unique additions specific to 11vht • Usage models: • Documents to take into consideration • 11n usage models 11-03-0802-23-000n • Eldad’s review of 11n usage models 11-07-2371-00-0vht • WFA usage models 11-07-2988-03-0000 • First attempt to map usage models to operating bands (6/60GHz) 11-08-0451-00-0vht • Potential additions/suggestions: • Complement with multi-user usage models (peer to peer, multiple lower rate devices etc.) • Overlapping of usage models between <6GHz and 60GHz operation suggests that a joint document with VHT60 could be worked out • Functional requirements • Example: 11n functional requirements 11-03-0813-13-000n • Comparison criteria • Example: 11n comparison criteria 11-03-0814-31-000n • Channel models • Example: 11n channel models 11-03-0940-04-000n • Remark: current channel models are limited to 100MHz bandwidth, >80MHz operation will require larger bandwidth models to take into consideration RF impairments simulation (160, 320MHz) • Selection procedure • Example: 11n selection procedure 11-03-0665-09-0000 • Suggestion towards an improved proposal development process 11-08-0579-00-0vht • Proposal: review other groups way of conducting business (e.g. 16m) and evaluate split vs. full proposal approaches Marc de Courville and John Barr, Motorola

Preliminary NESCOM Comments (1 of 2) • 5.2 Scope: • The scope of this project is to define an amendment that shall define standardized modifications to both the 802.11 physical layers (PHY) and the 802.11 Medium Access Control Layer (MAC) ............ • Why not simplify say: This amendment shall define standardized modifications to both the 802.11 physical layers (PHY) and the 802.11 Medium Access Control Layer (MAC) ............ • 5.2 Scope: • The scope on the PAR should appear exactly as it will appear in the published standard. • Suggest changing 1st sentence to “This amendment defines standardized modifications to both the 802.11 physical layers (PHY)…” • 5.4 Purpose: • If the standard will have a Purpose clause, it should appear on the PAR exactly as it will appear in the published standard. • If the standard will contain a purpose clause, suggest changing “project” to “amendment” in the 1st sentence. Preliminary NESCOM Comments (2 of 2) • 5.2 Scope: Change to read as it will for the final document – • This amendment defines standardized modifications to both the 802.11 physical layers (PHY) and the 802.11 Medium Access Control Layer (MAC) that enable modes of operation capable of supporting: • A maximum multi-station (STA) throughput (measured at the MAC data service access point), of at least 1 Gbps and a maximum single link throughput (measured at the MAC data service access point), of at least 500 Mbps. • Below 6 GHz carrier frequency operation excluding 2.4 GHz operation while ensuring backward compatibility and coexistence with legacy IEEE 802.11 devices in the 5 GHz unlicensed band. • Missing "and" in 5.6 Stakeholders list • 5.4 -- The purpose of the amendment should be stated rather than the project (TG). Change to: • The purpose of this amendment is to improve the 802.11 wireless local area network (LAN) user experience by providing significantly higher basic service set (BSS) throughput for existing WLAN application areas and to enable new market segments for operation below 6 GHz including distribution of multiple multimedia/data streams.
