  1. Will YouTube take over? With the powerhouse that is YouTube changing the way that we view and listen to our music, are the now old, music channels going to become extinct? By Colin Craig.

  2. The video playing website YouTube used to the place to find homemade videos of people falling over or of cats playing the keyboard (I think everyone remembers keyboard cat?) But YouTube has become the place to go to watch and listen to the latest music videos.

  3. In fact a report found that 57% of 15-24 year olds now watch music on YouTube, compared to the 56% watching them on dedicated TV music channels such as MTV. The survey also found that over half of the adults who watched a music video, via the YouTube platform, went on to buy music from that particular artist.

  4. With all this information, there is no doubt as to why smaller musicians are turning to YouTube to try and make it happen. They do it for the views. With YouTube getting more than 800 million unique users coming to the website every month you think it would be easy to get noticed. But it’s harder than you think.

  5. YouTube gets a whopping 72 hours of video uploaded to the site every minute. Undoubtedly TV music channels need to rethink how they go about presenting music if they are to keep up with the powerhouse that is YouTube. YouTube lets the little people have their moment and sing for a potential 800 million people a month.

  6. LyndseyHurren, former music student at North Glasgow college and who also sang at the Glasgow Christmas fair in 2011 said “ YouTube is an amazing platform for small singers like me and the band I used to be in. It lets you put yourself out there for potentially the whole world to see…”

  7. Someday YouTube may fully take over and become a non-stop shop for music videos. But one thing is for sure, it’s come a long way from just being the place to find “keyboard cat”.
