  3. Role and importance of Wetland: ~ maintenance of biodiversity Wetland provides large amount of food, a place for living and reproduction to animals and plants especially to those who live in water. e.g. birds and gei wai

  4. ~ ecotourism Wetland can filter dirty water so to make it clear. In Hong Kong, fishpond and gei wai provide a beautiful scene. ~ environmental education Education priorities are provided to students. Books, booklets, magazines, poster sets, video and CD-ROM are given for promotion of environmental production.

  5. ~ moderation of global climate conditions Wetlands store carbon within their plant communities ~ flood protection Wetlands function as natural sponges that trap and slowly release surface water, rain, snowmelt, groundwater and flood waters

  6. ~ shoreline erosion control Wetland plants hold the soil in place with their roots and break up the flow of stream or river currents

  9. Importance of legislation and education in wetland conservation Legislation : --- Protect the valuable wetland , because…… * Built something in commercial which destroy the great universe Wetland . * the wetland is the home of many species .

  10. Education : To improve the awareness for general public in Hong Kong . So that people will be protected the valuable wetland , Thus , education of the about wetland is very important

The threat on wetland from human activities Economic development: The building in Hong Kong affect the ecology in wetland greatly.As the rapid development is so harmful to wetland, it destroy the habitat of the ecology in wetland, so government should concern on the wetland more protectively.

  12. Public facilities KCR West Rail planned to build a rail near the wetland is a recent case.This will damage the soil quality,in turn the ecology. The construction of facilities will affect the species in wetland too.Then,they will not come to wetland of HK Again.

  13. Effluent from factory in Pearl Delta The Pearl River joins the sea between Hong Kong and Macau, It is a very muddy river, and the delta is very wide. Therefore, this will damage the whole ecology in wetland include margroves and different kind of populations.

  14. Disturbance of tourists: These projects will threaten ecology there as the project will be considered to build the facilities as to suit the tourists’ need. For instance, toilets, water pipes etc. Also, tourism development will affect the natural environment and the farms near the wetland.
