  1. How to Form Possessive Adjectives

  2. In Spanish, when you want to indicate possession, you use a possessive adjective. Here are the possessive adjectives in Spanish: mi my tu your (familiar) nuestro our su his, her, their, your (formal)

  3. If the noun you are working with is plural, you must add an “s” to the possessive adjective. Look at the following examples: mi libro mis libros tu libro tus libros nuestro libro nuestros libros su libro sus libros

  4. The possessive adjective “nuestro” is a bit trickier. If you are using “nuestro”, you must know whether the noun you are working with is masculine or feminine. Look at the following examples: nuestro libro nuestra profesora nuestros libros nuestras profesoras

  5. Let’s do some practice. What is the possessive adjective for “my” if your noun is “bolígrafos”? That’s right… it’s mis! Let’s do a few more. What is the possessive adjective for “your” (formal) if your noun is “revista”? That’s right… it’s su!

  6. What is the possessive adjective for “our” if your noun is “hermanas”? That’s right… it’s nuestras! What is the possessive adjective for “your” (familiar) if your noun is “libros”? That’s right… it’s tus!

  7. What is the possessive adjective for “his” if your noun is “amigo”? That’s right… it’s su! What is the possessive adjective for “their” if your noun is “tío”? That’s right… it’s su! Note that in the second example, the answer is not “sus” because “tío” is singular; the determining factor is the thing that is possessed or owned – NOT the possessor!
