  1. End of the Civil War 1.The war began at Fort Sumter, South Carolina on April 12, 1861. 2. The war continued on for 4 more years. 3. Most of the fighting took place in the southern states. 4. General Robert E. Lee attempted to take the fight to the North at Gettysburg, PA and was defeated in the worst 3 day battle of the war! I. The War

  2. End of the Civil War • 1.General Lee surrendered the Confederate Army to General Grant at Appomattox Courthouse, VA on April 9, 1865. • 2. Terms of the Surrender: • a. officers and Confederate soldiers were granted a pardon by Abraham Lincoln • b. Confederates had to lay down their arms (guns) • c. Confederate Army promised to never fight against the Union. II. The End of the War

During the third act, John Wilkes Booth snuck up behind Lincoln and fired one shot. • C. Lincoln died the following morning at the Peterson House across the street from Ford’s Theater. • D. The 1st President to be assassinated. • 2. Reconstruction • A. Now the country has to come together to “reconstruct” the South. • B. It’s time to unite! IV. Lincoln’s Assassination
