  3. INS AND OUTS • Ayn Rand began writing the Fountainhead in 1935 • After getting rejected from 12 publishers it was finally published by Bobbs-Merril in 1943 • Ayn Rand named her philosophy “Objectivism” and described it as the philosophy of living on earth.

  4. OBJECTIVISM My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity and reason as his only absolute. -Ayn Rand

  5. SYNOPSIS • The Fountainhead is about the passionate defense against individualism presenting an exalted view of man’s own creative potential. It is based on rational argument and holds that universe is open to human achievement and that each person within him has the ability. • Its theme is one of the most challenging ideas ever presented in a work of fiction- that “man’s ego is the fountainhead of human progress”.
