  1. Frame Relay Technology Done By: Ayman Rabee

  2. What is Frame Relay • Frame Relay is a connection-oriented protocol that employs virtual link. • It requires an establishing of a connection before two nodes can communicate. • These Aspects made it economical and efficient

  3. Frame Relay Devices • Data terminal equipment (DTE) • Data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE) • provide clocking and switching services in a network • Access line that interconnects DTEs and DCEs.

  4. Frame Relay Virtual Circuits • Switched Virtual Circuit (SVC) • Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) Each VC is identified by Data Link Connection Identifier DLCI.

  5. Congestion Control in FR Network • Admission Control • Committed Information Rate CIR. • Committed Burst Size BC. • Excess Burst Size BE.

  6. Addressing the Congestion • Informing the End nodes that network experiences congestion. • Consequently, End nodes slows its rate of transmission. • This can be done using two mechanisms:

  7. Forward-explicit congestion notification (FECN). • Backward-explicit congestion notification (BECN). Note that Frame doesn't correct the errors. It depends on higher protocols to that. For this reason its fast and preferable.

  8. How to Connect to a Frame Relay Network • What is the average and peak bandwidth required by your target applications? 2. What are your objectives for application?

  9. Access Fees Fees for each PVC.

  10. CIR Fees that PalTel guarantees with connection fees
