Pay As You Use • Paying for an entire subscription • Most printed journal articles are never read • (Lang 1994)- electronic or print • Pay for items that are only read • Aggregators- WE pay for little used journals • Frustrating for librarians and users • Increasing our dependence on monopolising publishers and aggregators

JUST IN TIME • Assign more of budget away from journals to interlibrary loans • Don’t copy academic model – use it • Greater use of interlibrary loan sources • IHSLG, NULJ, IMI, Subito & British Library • Efficient and fast and economically sound • Not possible 5 years ago • Co- operate with colleagues in purchasing journals – reduce duplication of resources
