  1. Sustainability Week

  2. What are we going to do?

  3. What are we going to do ? We are going to breed goats. By breeding goats we can make healthy dairy products for our 20 families to have. Things we are going to make: Goat milk, cheese, yoghurt, meat, soap, lotion. Why choose goats ? Rona Sulivan said; One of the reasons that we go to such great lengths to be sustainable is that it affords us the opportunity to have two of us on the farm full time. We have been able to survive much adversity with our dairy goats: Hurricane Isabel, tornadoes, drought, family illness, power outages and more. Our micro goat dairy allows some flexibility during those hard times. We’ve been able to slow down without giving up. Dairy goats are hard work. There are many benefits and rewards, even though it often takes a few years to make a profit.( Rona Sulivan owns ‘dairy goat journal’ magazine)

  4. 5 good reasons why goats are our choice

  5. 5 good reasons why goats are Our choice. 1. They are small and curious, friendly and easy to keep healthy. 2. They can produce more than and other dairy animals, such as milk, cheese, meat, wool, soap and even lotions. 3. They do not need to homogenize goat milk, unlike any other milk products. 4. It is managed properly and has a low impact on the environment, it works like efficient grazing machine. 5. It is healthier compared to other dairy animals, although it contains 0.2% more fat than cows, it has 0.2% less fat than us.

  6. What type of goats are We going to have?

  7. What type of goats are we going to have ? We are going to have a variety of goats, each type for different uses. We are going to use the Boer Goats for meat, Nigerian Dwarves for milk because it is 6.1% butter fat, Angora for wool, Toggenburg for it’s different flavoured milk.

  8. What are we going to feed them?

  9. What are we going to feed them ? Feeding is very important because this affects the reproduction and the ability to breed. Water is the most important food source. The goats should be able to get access to water anytime anywhere. They should get 0.75 to 1.5 gallons a day. Pasture and Browse are the most economical food source of nutrients for goats. Hay provides nutrients you can buy hay from farmers or grow hay yourself.

  10. They also need vitamins and minerals for their vitamin A, D, E you can get these vitamins from your food scraps e.g. carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, etc . Grains you can grow them yourself or buy them from your local pet store
