  3. Step 1: Apply • Paper Application: Print out an application, mail with payment (money order only/notarized) • Online Application: • Open a SAFE Account • Fill out online and pay online with credit card or mail in money order (you can buy prepaid credit to use)

Paper/Online • Paper application if you are not familiar with using a computer • Online application, your application gets approved faster, you can check your results online (must have email and valid state issued photo ID to register online • you can register for an email address for free (yahoo, gmail, sbcglobal)

  5. Step 2: Pay • Mail: Money orders only (Where can you get a money order?) (Marc’s, Drugmart) • Banks may charge too large of fees, some banks offer free money orders if you have an account with then (Huntington) • Online: Credit Card • Online application can still send in money order (put “online application” on envelope so it will be processed faster)

  6. FYI • You will not receive a call or email, etc., that your application has been approved

Step 4: Register • Our tests fill up quickly, think at least two months ahead! • You can not just show up for a test, you must be registered for the test session • If a student has applied online AND it is his/her FIRST attempt, they can register himself/herself through his/her SAFE account (www.education.ohio.gov) • If a student has applied with a hard copy through mail OR it is NOT the first attempt, the student must call the office to schedule a test. They may call any of the following numbers:  440-885-8797, 440-885-8762, or 440-887-4877.

Step 5: Test! • If you used a valid, working phone number on your application, you will get a reminder call from your examiner the day before the test • Must bring valid state issued photo ID (can not test with expired ID) • Must be on time (late testers are not admitted) Go early, test will not be delayed for traffic, accident, getting lost • BE EARLY to locate test room and fill out paperwork so you are not rushed on test day

Step 5: Test! • Testing Atmosphere: • No personal belongings allowed during testing: no purses, bags, cell phones, music players • Not allowed to leave the room during testing (if you have an emergency and must leave, test will not be scored and you can not come back to the room and finish) Use the bathroom before test begins to prevent emergencies • Drinks are permitted at your own risk (testing booklets cost $200. If you spill, you must pay fine before getting results) No food during test • Eat before testing and bring a snack

Scoring Procedures • GED test has 5 sections: • *Writing - 50 multiple choice and an essay – 2 hours • *Social Studies 50 multiple choice – 70 minutes • *Math (2 parts: 1 score) – 25 questions and 25 questions (50 total) 45 minutes and 45 minutes (90 minutes total) • Part 1 with a calculator, Part 2 without a calculator • *Science – 50 multiple choice questions – 80 minutes • *Reading – 40 multiple choice questions – 65minutes

  12. Step 6: Getting your results • GOOD LUCK! • 4-8 weeks will receive results in mail and GED in mail! (make sure your address on application is current) • You can check your results sooner through SAFE account • If you did not pass all parts, $10 for each part you did not pass, max: $40 – Re-Test Don’t give up!
