Objectives: • Explore your own attitudes about, and experiences with, prejudice and bias • Think critically and create examples of prejudiced attitudes, prejudice, discrimination, violence, and genocide • Learn that violence and genocide result from a continuum that begins with prejudiced attitudes.

  3. Something to think about… “The Holocaust began when the first racial or ethnic joke was ever told.”

  4. Let’s begin… • Read story “A Case Study to Consider.” • As you read, think about the ways the situation escalated. Could something like this happen in our schools?

Genocide • Genocide as defined by the United Nations in 1948 means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group, including • Killing members of the group • Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group • Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part • Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group • Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
