  1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  2. Main stream or independent film companies When films are completed they then must consider the marketing and production of the film. Films are divided into ‘mainstream’ or ‘independent’ film markets and production companies of each category will take on the film and often budget it. Below are conventional elements of both types of production companies: MAINSTREAM Medium -Big budget Big stars – well known Film genre & content attracts a wide mainstream audience Special Effects – ‘spectacle’ High production values High profile marketing campaign (trailers, billboard, posters, large viral campaigns, TV IV’s, awards etc.) INDEPENDENT Low budget New, emerging talent Genre & content more attracted to a niche audience No expensive special effects – character & narrative drives the film Production values reflect low budget Small marketing campaign (viral marketing, website, niche media texts, festivals & awards)

  3. CATERGORY OF OUR OTS I believe that our OTS conforms to the mainstream marketing and production market. The storyline of our film is mainstream, a thriller about an ordinary man who is thrown into a world of uncertainty and un-ordinary activity. I feel that ‘Phoenix Pictures 'would be the right production company to represent our film ‘End of the Line’. Here is a link to the films that Phoenix Pictures represent: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0029574/ The films that Phoenix represent such as ‘Shutter Island’ and ‘Black Swan’ are thriller films that we took inspiration from for our OTS. As our film ‘End of the Line 'contains common themes to these films it makes sense to suggest that Phoenix represent our film. In reality this would also mean we would have a big budget and repretation to help our film be successful.

  4. How our film is different to one of an independent production END OF THE LINE Genre- The genre of our film is a A physiological thriller Themes- The theme of our film is A thriller that is triggered by what seems supernatural events Narrative- Ted is investigating a mysterious figure who seems to revealing clues to his father’s death Characters- Our characters are fairly ordinary, they do not represent a particular social group or culture Props- The props we used were only used to show Ted’s job and ordinary lifestyle Budget- Our film would be a high budgeted film as special effects, high quality filming and recognisable characters will be used What makes our film different is the fact that the target audience is very wide, it’s a mainstream storyline that will attract interest for a lot of age categories and is relevant globally, Unlike Kidulthood which specifically relates to UK gang culture and may not be relevant or understandable to a broader global market. Kidulthood Genre- The genre of this film is gang culture in West London, Unlike our film this is very much marketed at a younger audience as is relevant to UK culture therefore limiting the target audience Themes- The key themes in Kidulthood are gang culture and the troubled lives of some teenagers living in these areas Narrative- It’s a film about one day in the life of these teenagers living in West London and the stereotypes they face, peer pressure, fear and violence that becomes their life Characters- The characters are very stereotypical to those of gang culture in London, Unlike our characters these truly reflect this culture and not everyone could relate to them Props- The props used in Kidulthood are a lot more specific and representative, Everything down to costumes, knives, weapons and drugs have been used to represent this real street culture Budget- Being an independent film company meant that there was not a high budget so marketing and creating something realistic was important to make a profit, careful advertising such as projecting a image of the film onto parliament meant that awareness of the film occurred and the media were promoting the film

  5. Actors that would be relevant for our ots TED BAKER Therapist Ted’s Wife These are all actors that in my opinion fit the characters of ‘End Of The line’. They are also from films Inception and Black Swan which are the same genre of film to ours and have proven to play parts in thriller films excellently.

  6. Marketing ideas • A trailer will be released to invite in audiences to our film • Publicity interviews and appearances on TV and magazines END OF THE LINE……. Bill boards of this image would be a way of grabbing the public’s attention, with the yellow writing continually flicking through numbers such as56890 cfngfngrggtyh967i-6then stopping on ‘END OF THE LINE’for a period of time it will make people wonder what this is about, then when the release of the film happens they may be intrigued to see it from hearing about it previously.

  7. Where will it be shown? • As our film is ‘mainstream’ it would be shown in mainstream cinema’s such as the Odeon and Cineworld. Here it could be easily accessible and bring in a large amount of money which would be needed to make a profit for the price of the film. If our film is well received and respected by the film industry it could later be seen in small independent cinema’s such as Duke of Yorks. • If successful our film can then progress to • Film ‘on demand’ services and be produced onto DVD • To continue the profit income.

  8. BOX OFFICE FIGURES FOR A FILM LIKE OURS Budget $80,000,000 (estimated)Opening Weekend $41,062,440 (USA) (21 February2010) (2,991 Screens)£2,250,178 (UK) (14 March2010) (416 Screens) From these statistics we can see that a film that is successful in the mainstream thriller genre can bring in a large profit and this is why it is necessary to ‘spend money to make money’.
