  12. Values Definition

  13. Values Definition Core values are the core, passionate, biblical convictions that determine your ministry behavior and shape your identity.

  14. 1. Core • Everybody has values • Challenge: getting at the “really core”

  15. Written Values • Fewer than 10 percent of organizations around the world have clear, written values. • Most organizations that do have values either have too many values and/or they are not ranked.

  16. Values Conflict • Research shows that people can’t focus on more than three or four values if you really want to impact behavior. • Also, values must be ranked to be effective. Why? Because life is about values conflicts. When these conflicts arise, people need to know what value they should focus on. • Ken Blanchard

  17. Three-Six • “If you articulate more than five or six, there’s a good chance you’re not getting down to only the core essentials. Visionary companies tend to have only a few core values, usually between three and six. In fact, we found none of the visionary companies to have more than six core values, and most have less.” • Built to Last, Collins

  18. 2. Generates Passion • Positive: What excites you about the church? • Negative: What frustrates you about the church

  19. Excites You • What really excites you about the church? • What is keeping you up at night thinking about your plant?

  20. Frustrates You? • What is your biggest criticism of the church? • How will your plant be different?

  21. 3. Biblical • Do your core values flow out of scripture?

  22. Biblical Example • 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9

  23. Early Church: Acts 2:42-47 • And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
