Class Schedule • 8:00-8:05 Attendance • 8:05-8:35 English Language Development • 8:35-9:00 Calendar, Pledge of Allegiance, Homework, & Journal • 9:00-9:45 Open Court Phonics • 9:45-10:05 Recess • 10:05-10:45 Open CourtComprehension & Language Arts • 10:45-11:15 Writing Alive • 11:15-12:00 Lunch • 12:00-12:20 Writing to Read Lab • 12:20-1:30 Math, Science, & Social Studies • 1:30-1:50 Physical Education • 1:50-2:00 End of the Day Clean Up & Dismissal * Wednesdays– 1:10 Dismissal!

  3. Outside Our Classroom • Mondays at 9:15am- Computers • Thursdays at 12:35pm- Library • Every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday- Writing to Read @ 12:00pm

  4. Classroom Rules Listen carefully. Follow directions. Work quietly. Do not disturb others who are working. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions. Respect school and personal property. Work and play safely.

  5. Clip Up Chart • Star Student: Sticker at the end of the day! • Green: Great Job! • Yellow: Warning! • Orange: Go to the Chill Zone, get a pink slip, & miss recess. • Red: Get a white slip & go to the office. • Please encourage your child to make “Good Choices!”

  7. Reading • Read with your child every night! • Your child should be tracking the words with their “magic” finger as they read. • Remember to sign their planner nightly after they read the assigned pages.

  8. Spelling • Your child writes their spelling words in their Hayden Planner every Monday. • They have two spelling homework assignments on Mondays. • Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday they write their spelling words on the back of the practice page. • Practice weekly spelling words with your child nightly! • Spelling tests are every Friday!

  9. Writing • Open Court & Writing Alive Programs • Writing is an extremely important part of first grade. • They are learning to use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and a period at the end. • They have a dictionary in which they are learning to look up words daily.

  10. Math • Writing numbers to 100 • Counting to 100 by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s • Adding and subtracting numbers to 10. • Third quarter students memorize facts to 20. • Telling time to the hour and half hour. • Money-adding coins together.

  11. Social Studies • Communities • Family • Citizenship • People at work • Holidays • Our world and American history.

  12. Science • Organisms • Weather • Solids and liquids

  13. Homework • Students have homework every night Monday through Thursday. • Homework includes: • Practice page • Spelling • Journal • Reading • Sign the planner every day.

  14. Writing Homework • Write in journal every night Monday through Thursday. • Calendar of writing ideas or they can write about whatever they want. • Start off writing two sentences a night. • Start each sentence with a capital letter and end with the correct punctuation mark.

  15. Please provide students with a quiet place and the necessary tools to complete their homework.

  16. Please keep your child home if they are running a fever, vomiting, or not feeling well

  17. Help your child be prepared for school each morning At least 8 hours of sleep each night A healthy breakfast Remember to be on time!
