What is Mercy? • Webster’s Dictionary • 1a: compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power also: lenient or compassionate treatment • 2a: a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion • 3: compassionate treatment of those in distress • Hebrew • Hesed • Greek • Eleos • “Forgiveness that is not deserved”

  3. “Who is my neighbor?” • Luke 10:30-37 • What was the response of the priest and Levite? • Why did the Samaritan help the man? • Did he know him? • Was he an acquaintance? • Did the man owe him money? • What is the purpose of the parable? • Those that show mercy are like good neighbors • The Samaritan was compassionate, even though he did not know the man The Samaritan showed mercy to the man
