  1. Welcome!

  2. Fifth Grade Standards • The Oklahoma State Department of Education provides us with standards that direct our instruction. Oklahoma Academic Standards https://sde.ok.gov/oklahoma-academic-standards • Our goal is for your student to master 5th grade OAS, as well as, prepare them to be successful in 6th grade. To achieve this goal, it is necessary that students are held to a higher level of accountability in all academic areas.

  3. Your student will be tested in the areas of: Reading/Grammar,Writing, Math and Science

  4. Testing Dates: We are scheduled to test the first two weeks in April. All tests are online this year! *We will send you those dates as soon as we know them.

  7. Sample Questions: There will be 61 total questions on the test, but 10 of those will be field questions.

  8. Just understanding the prompt is tough work!! Writing: Practice Writing Topic: Write an informational paper for your classmates about Tae Kwon Do [tahy kwon doh]. Include important information about Tae Kwon Do that will help your classmates understand the sport. Be sure to use information from both passages in your paper. Before you begin planning and writing your informational paper, read the two passages: 1. “History of Tae Kwon Do” 2. “Investigating Sports—Tae Kwon Do” Writing—Performance-Level Descriptors: Advanced Basic Below Basic Unsatisfactory

  9. 2nd Semester expectations • Paragraph of the Week • Daily Oral Language- DOL • Read at least 20-30 minutes each evening • Vocabulary - academic & tier 2 -Quizlet • Roots- Quizlet

  11. Math: Students will be given scratch paper to work the problems on before recording their answer online. PLEASE remind and encourage your student to work out the problems!!

  21. Nine (9) test items are field-test items that do not contribute to the student’s score, but the results are used to evaluate new clusters for use in future operational forms. About the Test: 54 Test Items Your student will have as much time as they need to complete this tests. These are estimated times.

  22. Sample Test Questions: Students have to investigate what happens during an experiment and apply that info to multiple questions.

  23. Students will read charts containing information they acquired in their investigation.

  24. In this sample, students are given written information about grassland organisms and then are asked to apply that information and select the correct food chain.

  27. If you have concerns about the test or testing situation, talk with your child's teacher Discuss your concerns with the teacher and/or school administrator. If you're not satisfied with the outcome, however, you can reach out to some other organizations that monitor testing, contact the State Department of Education for more information. If you believe that your child's difficulty with standardized tests may be the symptom of a problem such as a language or learning difficulty, speak with your child's teacher to learn if your child qualifies for any assessment accommodations.   28. On Test Day Many teachers report that students who don't do well on tests haven't gotten enough sleep, and haven't eaten breakfast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity. *No energy drinks *No orange juice (Narang, 2008)

  29. On Test Day Remain positive • Staying calm will help your child stay calm. • If they get nervous about the test, it is likely they will experience anxiety during the test. • Help them practice some relaxation techniques they can try once taking the test. (Narang, 2008)

  30. finally Remember that standardized tests and grading systems are not perfect; each format has its own limitations. Remind them that testing is just one partof their education. With your support and involvement, they will be well on their way to a bright future. (Narang, 2008)
