  1. PS236-ExThe World’s First Fully Rugged PDA with Phone Function and ATEX certification! Getac Technology Cooperation SFF Product Planning Department Crystal Liang 2010.09.20

  2. Agenda • ATEX Certification Introduction • ATEX Market Segments • User Scenario • PS236 Key Features • Summary

  3. ATEX Certification Introduction • What is ATEX? • Standard regulations for equipment used inside hazardous areas with potentially explosive atmospheres is a core issue for the European Union. Thus, they took the lead in developing standards which became famous as ATEX directives They apply to all kinds of, electrical or non-electrical equipment and safety devices as well as machines and industrial facilities located within potentially explosive atmospheres. • The objective of ATEX is to ensure the free movement of goods throughout the European Union, by offering one harmonized compliance procedure accepted by all EU countries, eradicating the need for differing national standards. • ATEX certified devices represent mobile devices designed to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres.

  4. ATEX Certification Introduction • Meaning of the zone classification • Zone 0/20: Danger is always present, for a long time or frequently • Zone 1/21: Danger is occasionally present • Zone 2/22: Danger is seldom present or present for a short time

  5. ATEX Markey Segments • A hazardous area may contain flammable gasses or vapors, combustible dusts, or ignitable fibers or flyings. • Main market segments for ATEX certified devices include • Oil & Gas, • Petrochemicals and • Aviation (Flight line) • According to VDC report, Oil/gas and petrochemicals represent strongest growth opportunities for handheld devices. • Oil/Gas: CAGR (2008-13) 14.7% • Petrochemicals: CAGR (2008-13) 13.6%

  6. User Scenario – Utility Challenge Solution Scenario • Water, oil, gas and electric enterprises. • Check widely dispersed pipeline network. • Capture information for new and existing infrastructures. • Record problems and feedback the severity to control center.

  7. User Scenario - Utility Scenario Solution Challenge • Vertical Market • Chemical • Oil & Gas • Pharmaceutical • Challenge • Hazardous and outdoor environment • Get immediately aid under emergency situations • Field service and plant maintenance • Problem record and report • No physical I/O ports is allowed to use in ATEX environments

  8. User Scenario – Utility Scenario Challenge Solution Challenge 1: Hazardous and outdoor environment. • IP67 and MIL-STD-810G certified, operating temperature -10OC to 60OC, • guarantee work under any challenging conditions. • ATEX zone 2/22 certification enables you to work safely under hazardous • environments. • Resistive type touch screen, can be used with gloves.

  9. User Scenario – Utility Scenario Challenge Solution Challenge 2: Get immediately aid under emergency situations • Embedded high sensitivity GPS receiver and built-in SiRF Star III chipset. • GPS location can be sent back to control center through HSDPA immediately. • 3.5G HSDPA voice communication, workers can make emergency call.

  10. User Scenario – Utility Scenario Challenge Solution Challenge 3: Field service and plant maintenance • Problem record and report • Passive HF RFID reader or 1D Laser barcode reader using for asset tracking. • 3 mega pixel auto-focus camera with LED light enables high quality • pictures even under dim environments. • Getac Camera geo-tagging software can automatically bundle all the • information from built-in GPS, E-compass and Altimeter in just one click.

  11. User Scenario – Utility Scenario Challenge Solution Challenge 4: No physical I/O ports is allowed to use in ATEX environments • Versatile wireless communications, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HSDPA, • flexible to use for connecting with devices or server. • Even without any wireless signals, built-in 4GB iNAND can storage large • amount of data, users can output records after whole day work.

  12. PS236-Ex + RFID Reader / 1D Barcode Reader Bring out historical data from database for reference and help inspectors judgment or repair instructions for specific device model.
