Global Change Research: Update

This report updates on the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), established in 1989 and solidified in 1990 through the Global Change Research Act. The program defines global change as any significant alterations in the environment that may affect the Earth's capacity to sustain life. The research is organized under a distributed model, allowing for collaborative efforts. The funding for FY 2002 was approximately $1.7 billion, underlining the government's commitment to understanding and addressing global environmental challenges.
