  1. The Sloth and the Jaguar Matthew L.

  2. Once upon a time there was a sloth and a jaguar. They both lived in the jungle. The sloth was very nice and the jaguar was a bully. One day they met and the jaguar said to the sloth, “You are the slowest animal in the jungle!” The sloth said, “If you’re so sure let’s have a race then!” And they both agreed. Sloth said, “The race will be tomorrow.”

  3. Then they both went home to eat. The jaguar ate jungle snakes and the sloth ate plants and grasses.

  4. After sloth’s meal he ran around the jungle ten times even though he usually runs around the jungle two times, he ran more so that he could get lots of exercise for the race.

  5. Jaguar didn’t exercise because he was certain that he would win the race. He looked at his clock and noticed it was his bed time so he went to sleep.

  6. Then jaguar woke up and noticed that he still had a couple of hours before the race. Instead of resting, he decided to run around the jungle chasing his friends and doing the kinds of things he usually does.

  7. Sloth, on the other hand, went to bed at his normal time because he knew that he needed to rest and preserve his energy for the big race.

  8. Sloth woke up feeling refreshed and well rested! He knew that he would be in the best shape possible and would do his best.

  9. At the race there were many animals cheering for sloth. Jaguar did not have many friends in the jungle, so there were very few animals cheering for him. Sloth’s friend rabbit was the referee. He said, “On your marks, get set, go!” So they both went. Jaguar was far ahead because he was really fast. Sloth was still close to the starting line because he wasn’t fast he was slow.

  10. Jaguar noticed he was starting to feel tired because he didn’t sleep very much the night before the race. So, he looked behind him and didn’t see any sign of Sloth. Jaguar thought it would be a good idea to take a nap.

  11. When jaguar woke up he felt much better and was ready to join the race again. But he looked at the track and saw that sloth got past him. He was worried because sloth was almost at the finish line. So he tried his best to run his fastest but he couldn’t catch up to sloth.

  12. The race was over and sloth was the winner! Everyone cheered for him! Jaguar was jealous that all of the animals cheered for sloth and realized that he should be nicer to the animals in the jungle. He also learned that just because you’re fast, you may not win the race. Then sloth and jaguar became friends and lived happily ever after.

  13. The end!
