  1. Journal 1 Write about a conflict or grudge you’ve had with someone in the past. How did it turn out? What are your feelings toward this person today? Journals will be collected on FRIDAY!! I will be grading “1st Quarters” Journals (1-21). They can be found on my website. You will get Vocabulary List 3 tomorrow! 

  2. Journal – (Extra Credit) Write about the scariest urban legend (a form of modern folklore consisting of stories that may or may not have been believed by their tellers to be true.) or scary story you’ve heard of (think Bloody Mary).

  3. Journal 2 Think of your personal definition of right and wrong. Write about a time that you found it difficult to decide what was right. What did you decide to do?

  4. Journal 3 As a citizen of the United States and a human living on this planet, do you feel globally responsible, as Arthur Miller did when he wrote The Crucible, for justice? If you had a way to stand up against injustice, would you? Have you in the past or are you presently?

  5. Journal 4 What do you think of the Dixie Classic Fair? What is your favorite thing/least favorite thing about it? EXPLAIN!

  6. Journal 5 Write about a time you were persuaded to do something you didn’t want to do. Or a time you were able to persuade someone. What was so effective about the argument that was used? Put your assignment from Friday in the basket.

  7. Journal 6 What was your opinion of Act II yesterday? What do you think Proctor’s quote at the end of the act meant (“Aye, naked! And the wind, God’s icy wind, will blow!”)? Make a prediction of what you think might happen at the end of the play.

  8. Journal 7 Winona Ryder has said of her portrayal of Abigail in the film that she wasn’t sure if she was “the villain of the piece,” and that rather Abigail was merely a result of the insanity of “the whole town.” Write your thoughts on this.

  9. Journal 8 In Act III of The Crucible we dealt with events occurring in the Salem courtroom. Respond to the following statement: Justice should only be dealt with in the court of law. Make sure you SUPPORT your response!!

  11. Journal 10 Happy Halloween!! Write about your favorite Halloween memory. What has been your best costume and why?

  12. Journal 11 Transcendentalists believed that no institution should be as powerful as the individual. How much power do political, religious, and corporate institutions wield in our society? Support your position with examples. Can one person make a difference in our society? If so, how? Should individuals have more power than they do? Why or why not? Get a lit book.

  13. Journal 12 Write about the feelings this painting evokes. What mood is reflected? How does this man feel?

  14. Journal 13 What does carpe diem mean to you. If you had to write a bucket list that had to be completed by the end of senior year, what ten things would be on it?

  15. Journal 14 Do you believe you can be highly moral and tolerant and nonjudgmental? Explain your answer.

  16. Journal 15 Describe the perfect day. What would you eat, see, do, etc? This needs to be a day that is possible for you to have.

  17. Journal 16 If you had to choose the most important single event of this century, what would win the honor? Why?

  18. Journal 17 If you could have the answer to any question, what would you ask? Why? Who do you think would know the answer?
