  2. Cattle * Cows – mature females that can reproduce * Steers – castrated male cattle that cannot reproduce * Bullocks – young male bulls that cannot reproduce * Heifer – young female cattle; has not had offspring

  4. Sheep • Ram – mature male sheep • Ewe lamb – young female sheep • Ram lamb – young male sheep • Lamb – newborn sheep or young sheep, also the meat from a young sheeo • Ewe – mature female sheep • Mutton – meat from a sheep older than one year of age • Wether – castrated male sheep

  5. Swine - Hogs or Pigs • Barrow – castrated male pig or hog • Boar – mature male hog • Gilt – young female pig • Shoat – young male pig • Pig – newborn or very young pig • Sow – mature female • Pork – meat from swine
