  2. Fiction: A form of writing that tells a story. Fiction is made up, not true. There are several different types of fiction, including:

  3. Novels Novels are long , fictitious¹, prose² stories involving characters and a plot. fictitious: made up. prose: the ordinary form of written language.

  4. Novellas A Novella is a long short story. It has characters and a plot, and ranges between 40 and 100 pages . Novellas are not a common form of fiction, but they have become more popular recently. Several novellas have been made into movies. For example: became

  6. Fiction can be broken down into several genres, or categories of writing. These genres include:

  7. TheClassics Novels considered to be the best examples of literature

  8. Science Fiction Science fiction is fiction that is usually based on science and space.

  9. Fantasy Fantasy: A genre that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting.

  10. Horror Novels that focus on monsters, ghosts, blood, gore, etc.

  11. Young Adult (YA) Novels that appeal to teen-aged readers.

  12. Other genres of fiction include: War Western Romance Historical Fiction Crime/Detective Thriller Assignment: Choose five genres of fiction and list one book you’ve read (or movie You’ve seen) for each genre.
