  2. What is in the May 2010 bond package? • $26,435,000 to provide funds for; • New High School – 480 students • Renovations to Lawn Elementary & Buffalo Gap Elementary Schools

  3. What Does it Cost?

  4. Why is the bond election being called? • JNCISD is planning for future growth and long range planning for the district. The District is following previous recommendations from two different facility studies (1995 & 2007). • Jim Ned CISD is renovating the two elementary schools to allow Buffalo Gap and Lawn to keep neighborhood schools in place as stated in the 1995 TASA study. • These renovations also allow for growth at the elementary schools by placing the 5th grade with 6th, 7th, & 8th Middle school at the current HS. • JNCISD is following previous recommendations made by TASB in 2007 to convert the current HS into a middle school and build a new HS at a different location. • The current bond plan gives something to every student at JNCISD.

  5. How can funds from this bond program be used? • For the purpose of the construction, improvement, renovation, additions and equipment of school buildings in the District and the purchase of the necessary sites therefore, including renovations and additions to existing buildings and related infrastructure and traffic improvements.

  6. What Will Be Included in the New High School? • Classrooms and core facilities for 480 students. • The new high school will include: • General education classrooms • Specialty classrooms for science and computer labs • Fine Arts & Performing Arts (band, choir, drama, speech, art) • Career & Technology shops/labs • Special Education Classrooms • Library (distance lab and media center) • Cafetorium & Kitchen • Competition & practice gyms • Ag shops • Home Economics classrooms • Administration offices

What are the Renovations to the Current Schools? • Lawn Elementary • Expansion of the cafeteria & kitchen • Creation of new administration offices and centralize entrance to the building • Increased security • Renovations to restrooms to bring them up to ADA compliance. • Buffalo Gap • Increase the capacities of the library • Renovation to expand gymnasium • Increased security • Additional restrooms • Creation of new administration offices and centralize entrance to the building

When Would the new High School and Elementary Renovations be Complete? • High School completion goal would be August of 2012 • Move Middle School to current HS August of 2012 • Move Lawn 2012 and renovate approximately one year – move in August of 2013 • Move Buffalo Gap 2013 and renovate approximately one year – move in August of 2014

  16. Over Age 65 Tax Statement “A taxpayer that is 65 and over will not see an increase in their taxes above the frozen amount of taxes as established when the Over 65 exemption was granted.”

  17. Who is qualified to vote? All registered voters residing within Jim Ned CISD, including JNCISD residents living outside Taylor County.
