  7. Language Arts

  8. LanguageArts Our language Arts program is comprised of three parts: Writing Workshop, Reading Workshop, and Word Study (Spelling).

  9. Writing Workshop • Students write in a variety of formats, including creative, expository, and letter writing. They generate their own leads and also learn to write from a prompt. • Students conference and edit with peers, adults, and teachers. • Mini-lessons will focus on improving writing through grammar, voice, and other conventions in the context of students’ writing. • Students will maintain a writing portfolio to show their growth throughout the year.

  10. Spelling Initially a Developmental Spelling Analysis is administered to determine each student’s stage of learning a Word Study. Groups are then established based upon the results of the analysis for appropriate instruction. Each week’s spelling list will focus on given word patterns, for example: Long Vowel Patterns: a,e,i,o,and u

  11. Spelling Activities • Students will complete activities that will allow them to build word study skills. • www.Puzzlemaker.com and wwwFunbrain.com are two sites that we use for spelling puzzles. • Tests are given on Fridays.

  13. Reading In our reading program, we will be using novels, short stories, library books, and magazines in order to read fiction and non-fiction.

  14. Reading Comprehension Strategies: -Making Connections -Synthesizing -Visualizing -Questioning -Determining Importance -Inferring Students will focus on a variety of literature genres, including: - Myths/Tall Tales - Biographies - Fantasy/Science Fiction - Poetry

  15. Enrichment Reading/LA All children will be provided with a variety of enrichment activities within curriculum.

  21. Industrial Revolution Investigate the new inventions when they were developed and how they affected the American Way and the Growth of America.

  22. Immigration Investigation of the many cultures and contributions made by the incoming ethnic groups to America and why they came. For example: The Irish and Chinese contributions to the building of the Trans-Continental Rail Road.

  23. Reading in Social Studies as a Literacy Model Historical Topics Students will read historical fiction and informational text which support our Social Studies curriculum. Books: Jayhawker,Bound for Oregon, Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie etc.

Larry takes the steps 2 at a time while Curly takes the steps 3 at a time while Moe takes the steps 4 at a time. If Moe starts at the bottom, what step should Larry and Curly start on so all three finish in a tie?Write to help explain your best thinking using words, numbers, or pictures. • Lots Of manipulatives. • A variety of problems that are recursive and cyclical • Reference Book- No Text Book

  34. Enrichment Math Everyday Math provides many opportunities for enrichment within the program. Additional enrichment will be provided so as to challenge all students.

  35. Ed Hub • Provides communication w/ parents • Allows parents to see homework and upcoming events • Teachers can upload templates that can be downloaded at home. • Also provides students independence – go online • Tool used through high school
