Impact Testing Results Till January 2012: Associazione Gruppo Abele, Turin, Italy

This report details testing results for HIV and TB screening until January 2012 in Turin, Italy by Associazione Gruppo Abele. A total of 370 individuals were tested, with 6 HIV-positive reactions. Follow-up strategies for positive cases are discussed.

  2. Sample • About 370 total eleg. Persons (303 on database of wich 18 needs to be reviewed and 68 not yet on data base) • 16 refuse (6 on results concerne) • 370 tested • 6 HIV positive reactions till now • 2 TB suspect screenings collecting sputum both result negative

  6. Follow up Hiv+ results • 6 tested persons were found HIV+, of them: • By gender: 5 males and 1 female • By nationalities: 5 italian 1 romanian • By place in which were tested: 5 tested on mobile unit and 1 in dropin center

  7. All of them don't arrive to confirmatory test to the hospital, ...because: • 1 was re-dated to the day after to be accompanied to the hospital, but he didn't come. • 1 have programmed already a date in the hospital by himself (so it did the test with us but is yet convinced to go to the hospital). • 4 of them live maybe feel shame and concerne and desappared for weeks also as mobile-unit client. • 1 was so concerned about his positive status that has developed a denial mechanism of defence and have gone to the service saying that he have had a negative result...

  8. Solution decided: We've decided in agreement with hospital partner, to accompany hiv ractive-tested-people directly after post-counselling phase. Our collaborating partner in the hospital will at least collect the blood sample.

  9. Follow up TB + screening • 1 male 44 years old • 1 female 42 years old Both of them are italian and live in an house, they are not yet come for the 2° collecting (but first was negative and seems that the first result was too reassuring ...)
