  1. NQF BTEC First in Sport • TL and SV Standardisation • 2013/2014

  2. Welcome • Agenda

  3. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Contact the Quality Nominee at the Centre • are their details correct? • Is an LIV registered for BTEC NG? • Have they conducted standardisation via OSCA? • Have they confirmed this online?

  4. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Request the Assessment Plan for the centre • Confirm that an assessment plan is in place showing appropriate assessment activities, duration of assessment, assessor’s names, Internal Verification activity and learner achievement. • Please be clear with the LIV that this does not mean any reduction in the flexibility of the programme, but the assessment plan must be kept up to date to ensure good programme management and to enable you to be in full control of your sample.

  5. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Use the Assessment Plan to select the sample • Select a sample as follows: • Learners included within the sample must be currently registered. • All available unit groupings should be included. • The sampled work should be mostly, but not necessarily exclusively, subject to internal verification. • The selected learners must represent the full range of achievement in terms of the grades awarded. • The sampled work must include assessment by most or all assessors on the programme.

  6. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Agree a sampling date • The date should be as early as possible and before 15th June. • Once this is agreed, please enter the date into EOL.

  7. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Request the Centre’s Assignment Briefs as soon as possible • Ask the centre to send their briefs to you • Always check to see if the assignment is the Authorised Brief, an adaptation, or centre-devised • Request Assignment Checking Service feedback if relevant • Check that assignments are fit for purpose • Alert the centre early of any issues • Start populating your SV report on EOL with relevant information

  8. The SV process A step-by-step guide • Proceed with Standards Verification at the sampling date • Read through the evidence thoroughly and make notes. • Submit your report online within 10 working days (NB: If this is the first centre you sample which includes assessment decisions, you will need to provide the sample and draft report to your TL and notify the centre of extended SLA on receiving their report). • Follow the step-by-step Quickstart Guide to the new NQF SV report (on EOL)

  9. Sampling – overview • Sampled every year • All core units will be sampled • Only completed units will be sampled • SV has more control – You chose the sample • In the larger sized qualifications, optional units are grouped together.

  10. Selecting the Sample • Cover range of grades • Cover as many assessors as possible while still doing the above • Cover range of units within the group while still doing the above   

  15. Unit Groupings for Sampling

  16. Block, Release or NYFS? • If the centre have provided you with a complete sample, you will either record ‘Block’ or ‘Release’ on the SV form. • If the centre have provided you with an incomplete sample, Assignment Briefs only or a combination of the two, you will record ‘Sample Incomplete’ on the SV form. This will show on the centre view as ‘NYFS’ (Not Yet Fully Sampled). • For NYFS reports, sampling will be completed in the second or third year (depending on delivery).

  17. Completing a NYFS report in 2013 • If the centre submitted an incomplete sample (or Assignment Briefs only) in 2012, you may be able to complete the sample in 2013. • In most cases, you will have been the allocated SV in the first year. • In a small number of cases, you will be allocated as the SV for the first time this year. • You will need to access the 2012 report in order to select the final units for sampling.

  18. The Team Leader role • The Team Leader has three main responsibilities: • To support the Senior Examining and Standards Verifier (SESV) and Principal Standards Verifier (PSV) in the delivery of Standards Verifier standardisation • To uphold national standards by supporting SV’s throughout the process with advice and feedback on both assessment decisions and administrative issues • To provide Pearson with an assessment of SV performance. • The Team Leader will be your first point of contact throughout the SV process. • Team Leaders will support delivery of SV training today.

  19. Agreeing Team Leader sampling • When you have received Assessment Plans from your centre, you must notify your Team Leader of the first date you will receive a centre sample. • When you have received confirmation from your Team Leader that this will be the sample you provide to them, contact the centre via the provided template to advise them of a potential increased SLA.

  20. Providing a sample to the Team Leader • When you receive your first centre sample which includes assessment decisions, complete your verification and write a draft report (a template will be provided to you on Gateway). • Send the sample to your Team Leader and email a copy of the draft report. • Your Team Leader will review your sample and provide you with feedback via email, copying in the Assessment team. • Your Team Leader will either: • confirm that your report can be uploaded onto EOL • Provide you with feedback outlining required amendments and giving advice. In this case, the Assessment team may contact you to discuss additional sampling to provide you with support.
