International News • January 7, 2011- Oran, Algeria • 2 killed, 300 injured in riot due to price increase in basic foods and housing. • Government subsidized many staples in the food industry but trade deficit in Algeria caused a spiraling increase in price. • Riots lead to awareness of the suppression of speech.

  3. National News • Houston, Texas: A Cuban exile is being charged for perjury. • Luis Posadas has been linked to bombings in Havana and the downing of an airliner in the 1970s. • He was deported from the United States and then re-entered in March 2005. • He stands imprisonment in Venezuela and Cuba.

  4. Local News • Marin County is being charged with Civil Rights and discrimination statues by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. • Given $1.7 million dollars by Community Development Block Grants • Plus an additional, $1.2 million from the federal HOME program.

  5. Making a Difference • Sketches of A Memory; Janet Ballelos (Alumni 2003) • Bridging the generation gap between the youth and the elderly. • Students from Moreau Catholic go to Madonna’s Care Home in Union City. • Students create an art piece about their elderly partners story.

Answers • Many bloggers were being shut down and arrested by government officials causing “Journalists without Borders” to bring this issue out into the open. • When asked by an immigration judge, Posadas lied about his whereabouts which what he is initially being prosecuted for. • The amount of money given to Marin County was said to be insufficient for building affordable homes. • To create awareness about the elderly generation being left behind and bridging that gap using art and the youths. • Because roller coasters have their ups and downs. And in the end everything turns out to be okay.
