  1. The Scottish A-Z Project Fiona Howie/Don Martin East Dunbartonshire Council

  2. Origins of A-Z • Mgf3 bid – 3 Councils (2004) • Knowledge Base • A-Z added (East Dunbartonshire lead) • Navigation List added (2005) • eGif and eGMS • IPSV compatible

  3. The Scottish Services List(SSL) • Based on LGSL • 800 services identified • Uses LGSL PID numbers • Addition of PIDs for Scottish services • Currently being fine-tuned • Will require constant updating and maintenance

  4. Local Services List • Based on SSL • Officers involved at local level • Selection of services from SSL • Localised services list prepared • Confirmation of services not provided at local level

  5. LGSL Scope Notes • Scope notes for each PID • New examples created for SSL • Succinct description of the scope of service • Can be used as basis of model web page

  6. The Scottish Navigation List(SNL) • Polyhierarchical; inspired by LGNL • Very different from LGNL • Mapped to the IPSV • Information from many sources • Scottish websites e.g. Aberdeenshire • 11 top level headings • 3-4 levels deep • New ‘fine-tuned’ version (Version 1.02)

  7. Local Navigation Lists(Scotland) • Based on SNL • Informed by local services list • Formatted for local use • Used by IT teams to build local website structure • Close link between local navigation list and local services list

  8. Scottish A-Z(SAZ) • No English equivalent • Based on terms in SNL • One stage and two-stage indexing options • Includes many synonyms and some local variants • Still needs ‘fine-tuning’ • Should be carefully edited at local level

  9. Mappings • SSL <–> SNL • SNL –> IPSV • SSL –> IPSV • 2 Scottish local authority navigation lists mapped to SNL • Other mappings; including 46 esd services

  10. FOI Publication Schemes • Public facing • Can be based on website structure • Monoheirarchical not polyheirarchical • Website as publication scheme?

  11. Current Status:East Dunbartonshire • Theory only; no practice yet • Practice depends on new website development • Practical issues discussed by East Dunbartonshire Information Management Group • One major local service still not on board

  12. A-Z Project: Current Status (National Level) • SSL, SNL, SAZ all in place & available on esd-toolkit • Mappings all in place • esd-toolkit subscriptions under review • Toolkit Local Community (TLC) supports esd-toolkit use (next meeting in Falkirk, 31 October) • SNL has now been fine-tuned (Version 1.02) • SSL & SAZ not yet fine-tuned • Future developments in hands of esd-toolkit/TLC

  13. A-Z Guidance Notes • Creating a Localised Services List (LSL) • Creating web pages for an existing Local Authority (LA) website, based on a LSL • Creating a new LA website, structured according to the SNL, from data contained in a LSL • Contributing service data, identified and developed at local level, to the SSL • Indexing a LA website using the SAZ • Mapping your existing LA website navigation structure to the SNL • Checking your published website information against the 46 esd services, using SNL mappings • Using the IPSV picker to develop your SNL-based website, in line with eGMS and eGIF
