  1. Welcome 5th graders! Student To Do List Introduce yourself to Mrs. Breyer and Ms. Hyvare Find the lunch choice chart and make a PRETEND lunch choice for the first day of school, Tuesday, September 4th Find your cubbie Place all materials in your cubbie. Leave School Kit Boxes in the hallway. Look around the room and meet your classmates Presentation will begin at 4:30 and again at 5:30 Parent/Guardian To Do List Fill out Student Contact Form and return to Mrs. Breyer or Ms. Hyvare

Daily Schedule – “A Day in the life of a 5th grader” Morning 9:00 – 9:15 – Morning Check In / Breakfast 9:15 – 9:20 – Class meeting and look at the day’s schedule 9:20 – 10:40 – Language Arts/Math 10:40 – 10:55 – Read to Self (small group reinforcement) 10:55 – 11:08 – Read Aloud 11:15 – 11:50 – Lunch & Recess

  5. Daily Schedule – “A Day in the life of a 5th grader” Afternoon 11:55 – 12:45 – Science/Health & Grammar 12:50 – 1:50 – Specialists 1:50 – 2:05 – Snack and Break 2:10 – 3:30 – Language Arts/Math 3:30 – 3:45 – Homework Planners & Study Hall 3:50 Dismissal

  6. Math • Mastery of Basic Multiplication facts is VITAL to success • IXL online math practice IXL • Math Club • Fridays at 8:20 am before school • Start date: Beginning of October thru middle of May

  7. Language Arts • Monthly Independent Reading calendars • 5th grade expectation is 30 minutes, 5 times a week • Greek and Latin Roots Vocabulary Study • Quizzes every other week • Spelling • Pre-test (Mondays) & Post test (Fridays) every other week • Challenge Word list • Writing • Consistent informal writing & larger formal writing projects • Personal Narrative, Compare/Contrast, Persuasive Essay • Current Event summaries and mini presentations

  8. Homework • Extension of new learning, NOT busy work • Daily planner completed by student at the end of the day … Homework is not posted online • Math • Usually a daily Study Link with extension on back • IXL minutes • Language Arts • Daily 30 minutes of Independent reading • Occasional reading/writing assignments • MOODLE • Incomplete homework assignments result in loss of privileges/break • Multiple late homework assignments will receive a call home

  9. Gator Pride and Expectations • Positive Interactions between students, staff, and home • High expectations for ALL • Preparation for Middle School • School to home communication • Frequent emails to families • Majors & Minors

Classroom Volunteer Opportunities and Wish List Please sign up for any opportunities listed on the room counters FIRST FIELD TRIP … Kindness Retreat – Friday October 5th – Many volunteers needed Art Adventure - Presenters needed Classroom Reps for Parent Night Out and Yearbook Field Trip Volunteers will be requested as needed when field trips are scheduled
