  1. 13 English Colonies We will compare the political, economic, and social reasons for the establishment of the 13 colonies by creating a brochure using Microsoft Publisher.

You have been asked to either… To create an illustrated brochure on all three regions of the 13 colonies…OR To create an illustrated brochure on ONE of the three regions of the 13 colonies. • Regardless, YOUR brochure should contain: • A cover with a title and attractive artwork • An inner part that talks about the government, economics, religion, and social parts of the region you pick or of all 3 regions. • A short sales pitch about why someone from England should move to America • Art work, graphics, symbols, and other things to make your brochure attractive • Your name, teacher, and class period on the back page.

  3. To review… • Politics: Who is in charge of the colony? What rights will I have? Is there representative government or protection from the King? • Economics: How will do people make a living there? What opportunities will my children and children’s children have in the future? Can my dreams come true here? • Religion: Will I be able to practice my religion freely whatever it may be? Will I protected from people of different religions who may influence my children? Is the church sponsored by the government or visa versa?

  4. Social Structure: What do people do for fun? Are one group of people considered better than another? Why? Do castes exist in this area? • Intellectual Opportunities: Is education offered to anyone? Who pays for schools? Church? Government? • Artistic Expression: How do people express themselves? Dance, art? Music? Parties etc? • Geographic Factors: Climate? Weather? Population density? Mountains? Rivers? Bays? Forests? Soil? • Major cities in each region, population densities?

  5. Step 1: Research • Research information about the 13 colonies by using: • Your matrixes on the 3 regions of the colonies • Handouts to be received in BIM • Your class notes in your spiral

Step 2 – goes on back of your brochure • Write 3 persuasive paragraphs that convince people to come to the 13 colonies • Be sure to include: • Geography-List the colonies, climate, landforms • Economics- How do people make a living? • Government- Who is in charge? • Religion- is their freedom? What type of religion? • Extras- Education; What did they do for fun?

  7. Step 3 • Create a brochure that includes: • A cover page with illustration • Name, class period, and teacher • For your region include • Descriptive paragraph • Map of the colonies in the region • One illustration • COLOR, COLOR, COLOR
