  2. What Happened? • Hitler and 600 SA soldiers marched into the Munich Beer Hall where a meeting between their political oponents was happening. • Hitler forced them into agreeing to rebel and the SA took over the army and the offices of the local newspaper • Hitler and the Nazis went on what they thought would be a triumphant march of munich but Kahr had called the police and Hitler was arrested

  3. Results of the Putsch • The Nazi party was banned and Hitler prevented from speaking in public until 1927 • Hitler went to prison where he wrote his book, this became very well know along with his ideas. • Hitler realised that he would never come to power by revolution and set out planning other strategies of getting into power.

  4. Opposition Groups

  5. The White Rose group was formed by students at Munich university. They handed round opposition leaflets but were discovered and executed • Swing groups were formed by young people, they smoked, drank and listened to jazz music. They rejected the Nazi values. • Edelweiss Pirates were more violent groups. They daubed anti-Nazi slogans, sheltered deserters and eat up Nazi officers. In 1944 a group of ‘pirates’ killed a Gestapo chief, so 12 of them were publicly hanged. • The Kreisau Circle tried to bomb Hitler. They were a group of army officers and intellectuals, the bomb exploded, but Hitler survived and 5000 were executed
