Home Screen There are three main options: “My Open Cases” – which shows you cases you already have accepted (including cases taken before the Portal worked) “Search Waiting Cases” – which shows you a list of cases in need of, but not yet assigned, to a volunteer attorney “Account/Profile” – which allows you to update your contact and case-type preference information
  8. Search Waiting Cases See “Any and All” or sort by issue You can also search by County and Veteran
  9. Search Waiting Cases See HVLP’s newly formatted case summary here. It tells you the facts of the case, important dates, the legal work needed, and any special issues to note. If you want to continue to learn about the case, click here
  10. Search Waiting Cases View party information to run your own conflicts check If there are no conflicts, click here
  11. Search Waiting Cases If you want to take the case, click here. The screen will say “Case Taken” at the bottom if you click this, and no one else will then be able to volunteer for that case.

  13. My Open Cases View case information, record your time, view/add documents, close the case online when the matter is finished. We currently have the Texas Family Law Practice Manual available here. This will be expanded with other volunteer resources.
  14. My Open Cases When you “View” the “Information” on an open case (including a case you have just taken online), you will see four options. Click here to see the detailed case summary Click here to get the contact information for the HVLP staff attorney assigned to your case, who will answer questions you have about the matter
  15. My Open Cases When you “View” the “Documents” on an open case (including a case you have just taken online), you will see all the case-related documents* in HVLP’s file. When you select a document you are interested in, you will then be prompted to download it. *We have only begun scanning documents recently, so older cases may not have any documents available. In that instance, we will email you the case documents upon your acceptance of the matter.
  16. My Open Cases When you click “Close Case” for any open case, you will see an electronic version of HVLP’s Final Disposition Form. No more faxing needed! If you entered time elsewhere on our portal, please do not include that time here.
