  2. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation • Recently, Wolseley plc performed an extensive internal audit in the areas of Health, Safety and Transportation. All items on the Location Self Assessment and FMCSA Self Assessment were reviewed. • While many areas were found to be very well managed, listed below are areas the auditors identified as challenges…

  4. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Health and Safety Training • Annual, documented training is required in the following areas: • Emergency Action Plan procedures • Hazcom/ Hazmat/ MSDS retrieval • Lock Out / Tag Out • Blood borne Pathogens • Personal Protective Equipment requirements • Accident and Incident reporting • Powered Industrial Trucks

  5. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) New Hires: • New hire training must be documented with signed acknowledgements of the following: • FEI's Safety Policy and Disciplinary Procedure • Health and Safety Handbook

Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Emergency Action Plans • EAP’s must be posted and documentation of training for all associates kept on file. • Locations must perform and document evacuation drills on a regular basis (at least annual). • First Responders lists must be posted.

  7. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Emergency Lighting and Exits • Emergency lighting which ensures clear visibility of exit routes is required. • Exit routes can not be blocked or have obstructions that prevent quick access. • Exits must be clearly marked.

  8. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) • All associates must have: • Training documentation in the required areas of PPE usage, and handling/limitations of PPE. • Visible signage communicating PPE is needed in designated areas.

  9. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Power Industrial Truck Inspections • All PIT equipment must have: • Documentation of daily inspection prior to use, at least once a day. • Portable Fire Extinguishers attached to each PIT.

Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Hazardous Materials • Locations are required to: • Maintain documentation of associate training on the retrieval of MSDS from 3E online. • Maintain and update hard copies of MSDS books every six months, only if a location chooses not to use 3E online. (Documentation of training must be kept on file.) • Have proper storage and labeling of hazardous materials.

  11. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Eyewash Stations • All locations must have: • Eyewash stations within 50 feet or ten seconds travel of hazardous materials • Eyewash stations inspected and documented as being operable and clean

Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Safety Committee Meetings • All locations must have: • A proper balance between management and associate representatives, and an associate co-chair. • A meeting every thirty days and posted minutes • Documentation for action plans developed in response to issues addressed by the safety committee, and forwarded to management for approval.

Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Location Self Assessment • All locations are required to: • Complete a location self assessment every six months and maintain physical copies of the most recent two self assessments. • Mark self-assessments to accurately reflect areas reviewed • Sign the Location Self Assessment (management or designee) • Implement and document corrective actions within a 6 month period.

Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Drivers • All drivers must: • Complete a daily post trip inspection report for each commercial motor vehicle (over 10,001 pounds). • Sign/date their Hours Worked Report daily and keep on file for a rolling six months. • Complete the log graph portion of the Hours Worked Report if they traveled out of a 100 air mile radius or worked more than 12 hours.

  15. Audit Summary-Health, Safety and Transportation (Continued…) Vehicles • All commercial motor vehicles: • Must undergo a complete annual inspection. Locations must keep documentation of annual inspections on file. • Must not be operated until defects noted on post trip inspections are repaired.

  16. Are you Prepared for an Audit?? In the event of an audit, we need to be prepared to produce documentation of training in the following areas: • EAP – Emergency Action Plans/ Fire Extinguishers and Exits • HAZCOM/HAZMAT/MSDS Retrieval training • Lock Out Tag Out • Blood Borne Pathogens • Personal Protective Equipment
