  6. Branch Safety Inspections These Inspections all require Documentation & Retention

  7. Why…? • Why Complete Safety Related Inspections? • Primary goal is always to protect our associates from injury - This by default keeps your operation working better. • They lower maintenance costs • They reduce downtime • They are required by law and/or company policy.

  8. Dept of Transportation (DOT) • Post-Trip Inspection Checklist: Post-Trip Inspections must be performed and documented by drivers and kept on file at the location to comply with federal law - Retain for rolling 90 days • Pre-Trip Inspection Checklist: Pre-Trip Inspections must be completed by drivers, but documentation is not required by law but it is considered “Best Practice” to document regardless. • DOT annual inspection : All vehicles over 10K must have a documented annual inspection.

  9. Power Industrial Trucks (PIT) • PIT/forklifts Inspections: Forklift inspections must be performed and documented before each shift. • Retain Inspection forms for 6 months + Current Month. • Don’t forget– OSHA requires all PIT operators to be trained and re-certified every 3 years.

  10. Fire Extinguishers… • Fire extinguishers are to be visually inspected monthly (including fire extinguishers on PIT's) and documented on the reverse side of the inspection record tag. • Fire extinguishers must have an annual maintenance check (performed by Cintas). • Don’t Forget - Associates must be trained, in its use, if they will be expected to use the fire extinguisher in the event of a fire. Training must be documented and kept on file at each location.

  11. Eyewash Stations… • What Locations Need Eyewash Stations? • If a location has hazardous materials than an eyewash station is needed. Location size does not matter. • Again, these need to be properly inspected on a monthly basis and documented using the Inspection Tag mounted on the station.

  12. First-Aid Kits • First-Aid & BBP kits are to be maintained and inspected monthly and documented. • Retain for 12 months.

  13. Rolling Step Ladders • Only Rolling Ladders allowed to be used in FEI Facilities. • Rolling Ladders must be inspected & documented before use. • Defects shall be immediately marked in a manner that readily identifies them as defective and shall be withdrawn from service until repaired.

  14. Location Assessment… • This inspection checklist is for locations to find areas of excellence, and areas of opportunity with relation to a working environment and safety compliance. • Complete twice per year. • used as a key resource to achieving Workers Compensation Goals. • Keep copies on file at location.

  15. Any Questions…?

  16. Wolseley Focus Operational Audits Coming soon to a branch near you…

  17. Wolseley Focus Operational Audits • Ferguson Enterprises is beginning a new initiative designed to help all of us understand where we Branch Operations and where we could be at risk of loss.  • This audit will be another tool we will use to help us know where our locations can improve.

  18. Wolseley Focus Operational Audits • A checklist is under development that will be posted to Pipeline so we can “self-audit.”  • The branch visitation schedule will also be posted.  • The audit process will usually be less than a 2-day visit • this will minimize the impact on your time to serve the customer.

  19. Wolseley Focus Operational Audits • No location is exempt from this program.  • Fabrication locations. • ISO locations.. • One-Man locations…. • The location manager will need to be made available when the auditors visit.  • Again, these will not be surprise audits.
