Complete and expand the RCN FA Programme UK wide Implement and evaluate a standardised learning and development programme for RCN Activists across the UK and develop and implement a systematic approach to reviewing the role descriptors for each activist role Identify and work with a professional accreditation provider to demonstrate the above programme meets UK standards Design and implement a UK mentorship programme that enables RCN representatives to be mentored in the role to demonstrate their competence Promote the role of the RCN Representatives in the workplace and continue to build a vibrant activist community throughout the UK using a range of learning resources, information sources and financial opportunities, for example UnionLearn Funding Purpose of Future Activist Programme09/10 Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

During 2007 UKCRLD (now UKCALD) agreed; • Need for UK-wide mentorship framework • Framework should be underpinned by ENTO standards • Should take into account lessons learned from staff OD mentorship programme • Should take into account findings from mentorship questionnaires submitted by RCN Boards • 4 country project group be established Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

  4. Purpose of the Mentorship of RCN Representatives project(objective 3) • To develop a mentorship framework that defines the mentorship standards, processes, tools and resources required to support the mentorship of RCN Representatives Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

Principles underpinning proposed mentorship framework • Support the strategic direction of RCN (strategic objectives 1), 2) & 8) • Underpinned by ENTO standards • Meet the learning and development needs of RCN Reps • Be integrated within the new RCN Learning & Development Programme for Reps • Be consistent with recommendations of Lean Review • Be a practical programme (practice outcomes) Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

Work Streams Work stream A • To define the concept/approach to be adopted for supporting RCN Representatives • To define the roles/responsibilities of the mentors/mentee a) during the L&D pathway programme b) upon completion of the pathway programme • To agree the ENTO mentorship standards which will be used to underpin the a) role/responsibilities of the mentors b) role/responsibilities of the mentee Timeframe – October 08 to April 09 Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

Work stream B • To develop and make recommendations for a mentorship programme for RCN Representatives that spans the a) period of L&D pathway programme b) continuing development in the workplace following completion of L&D pathway programme Timeframe – January 09 to April 09 Mentorship of RCN Representatives Project Steering Group

  17. Relationship Standards • Total of 16 relationship standards • All of the standards should be observed by both the mentor and the mentee when appropriate • 9 apply to the mentor • 7 apply to both the mentor and the mentee

  18. Practice Standards • Total of 17 practice standards • 9 generic standards • 3 apply only to stewards • 2 apply only to safety reps • 3 apply only to learning reps
