CRC Mission • To be the Government of Canada’s Centre of Excellence for communications R&D, ensuring an independent source of advice for public policy purposes (e.g. Industry Canada - spectrum management) • To help identify and close the innovation gaps in Canada’s communications sector by: • engaging in industry partnerships • building technical intelligence • supporting small-and medium-sized high-technology enterprises

CRC Technology Transfer Activities • In 2003, CRC was recognized by Federal Partners in Technology Transfer as the number one laboratory in the Government of Canada for technology transfer to industry. • CRC helps fulfill Industry Canada’s goal to build a more dynamic and innovative economy by assisting small- and medium-sized Canadian companies through technology transfer.

CRC Technology Transfer Activities • In the 2003-2004 fiscal year, CRC had: • 427 active agreements with the following clients: • 299 with Private industry • 59 with Canadian Government Departments • 27 with Canadian Universities/Academic • 9 with other Canadian Public Organizations • 33 International Public Organizations • 330 license agreements • 70 industrial collaboration agreements • 27 contracting-in agreements • 226 active patents and applications covering 94 inventions • 25 new patent applications filed and 11 patents awarded • $2.5 M Cdn. combined revenues from licensing and collaborative R&D and testing

  9. Innovation Centre • Model built on combination of research, learning, growing and evolution • First client: November 1994 • 40 companies to date through our program (employing roughly 2,500 people), mostly start-ups. • Eight clients currently on site.
