  1. Scandinavian Film Noir Pink Panthers

  2. Crime/ Drama / Realistic genre • Morbid themes such as death of children/ killers/ • Flashbacks (RE-PRESENTATION) • Hardboiled detective who has dysfunctional relationships Scandinavian Film Noir characteristics:

  3. Neo-liberalism, free trade/ privatization/ reduction in government control of the economy (originates from 1930s and has expanded since). • Crime increased • This genre should emerge in order to give a clear RE-PRESENTATION that is shown to be realistic to the audience and continues to keep their attention. When and why the genre should emerged in the 1980s

  4. Evidence..

  5. Has a feeling of bleakness. • Harsh lighting, makes everything visible (imperfections/flaws noticeable). • Wide shots of open land. From the audiences point of view, can make the characters look vulnerable. • Flashbacks to tell the story, re-enacting the story. • Didn’t use shadows as intense as Hollywood did in their films, but used texture to define. Makes things visually look more uncomfortable to watch. The relationship represented visually and stylistically in narrative structures:

  6. Themes such as rape, murder, incest, pedophilia • In the Scandinavian region there was an increase in criminally committed mental patients – in the 70s/80s • So these themes can be related in a way to what was going on in that society and catch on to people • As these themes are considered unacceptable in todays society, they are considered to be dark, cold events that as a storyline in a film, can be engaging to the audience • The protagonists are typically detectives worn down by cares and far from simply heroic. The atmosphere within the storyline is typically dark and chilled. Themes continued in its Plots, Storylines…

  7. Dysfunctional Detective, he is not the stereotypical handsome and Suave detective. He isolates himself from society to aid his detective work this is shown through shots of open scenery/spaces. • Femme Fatale??? – usually disturbed, problematic. • Make the events of solving the crime more problematic which usually ends up in a death of some sort. How central characters mirror this context:
