  1. Understand the Factors Which Influence the Quality Score So, the position of an advertiser’s ad in the sponsored listings is dependent not only on the amount they bid, but also on the relevancy of the ad determined, in particular through its clickthrough rate and other quality score factors. Understand the factors which influence the Quality Score in the search networks which is used to determine relevance of an ad to users and governs your position in the search results. The quality score is an assessment by Google Ads of an individual ad triggered by a keyword which, in combination with the bid amount, determines the ranking of the ad relative to competitors. The quality score is based on:  The clickthrough rate for each keyword (the primary factor)   The match between the keyword and the occurrence of the keyword in the text

  2.  Historical clickthrough rates  The engagement of the searcher when they clickthrough to the site Manual reviews of results and sites (the extent of these reviews is not known, but it has been suggested that they may occur for high volume phrases to identify inappropriate sites. Google’s  Quality Score is also used to determine the point at which an ad is triggered through quality-based minimum bids. Ads with a low quality score may not be displayed until a higher amount is bid. This approach was initially used by Google Ads after it experimented with other models and more recently Bing Ads has adopted a similar approach, so it is vital to understand what influences your quality score and work at factors which improve it. The mantra used by Google is ‘Relevance, Relevance, Relevance’. That is what they are looking to deliver to their customers through their paid and natural listings and by focusing on the relevance of your ads you will achieve better results. Of course, use of a quality score is also smart from a search engine’s point of view since it reduces transparency of the bidding process and encourages higher bids to overcome deficiencies in other aspects of the campaign.
