  1. System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) What is SWIM Architectural Context

  2. Program Concept SWIM is an IT infrastructure program that will operate in the background to provide data to authorized users SWIM will: • Implement a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the NAS • Lower information costs • Increase speed to establish new interfaces • Increase common situational awareness • Increase NAS agility

  7. NextGen 2025 System InterfaceDescription SV-1p • The NextGen 2025 System Interface Description (SV-1p) depicts interactions among the functional capabilities in the NextGen NAS. It is divided into four areas: • Along the top of the diagram are airborne elements, including aircraft (intended to represent all types of consumer flight vehicles) and satellite support systems • Across the middle, just below the airborne elements, are the remote facilities. The green shading of the outer box is intended to indicate that these elements are part of the National Airspace System (NAS) • Along the left side of the diagram are ground-based stakeholders and consumers in boxes shaded sky blue similar to the aircraft box described above • The fourth area is below the remote facilities, and consists of the functions located at NextGen facilities, which are major operations centers. They are surrounded by a green box to indicate that they are part of the NAS

  11. Services Functionality Description SV-4b For the purpose of defining a Functionality Description for a Service Oriented NAS Architecture our key priorities are to: • Identify NAS functions • Describe functions as services • Arrange the functions to show decoupling of services • Layer the functions to show abstraction of service types The clean lines between the layers indicate the decoupling between service types Cross cutting Administrative and Governance services are shown vertically to indicate support to all the layers

  12. Simplified NextGen NAS SV-4 Framework Enterprise Governance Administrative Services Interaction Services Data/Network Support Services Run-time Management Mission Services Support Services (Content Management /Data Acquisition) Services Provisioning Management SOA Governance SOA Core Services Technical Infrastructure Services
