  4. =========== TheMARSIS data product =========== • Marsis has more Data collection Modes • MARSIS data are organized into groups, so called frames. • The generic frame is the result of the on board processing of a certain number of raw echoes. • The content of the frame depends on the operative mode. • For SSx only the frame content depends also on the state of the instrument and on • the processing performed on the data. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  5. =========== Data Products =========== • Data Products are composed by two files. • Frame file (FRM) – FRM_SSX_TRK_CMP_EDR_XXXX.DAT • Geometry file (GEO) –GEO_SSX_TRK_CMP_EDR_XXX.DAT The first contains the instrument science data , as they were collected by the instrument. Each frame corresponds to a record in the Data Product that contains all frames acquired using the same instrument mode, in the same instrument state and after the same type of on-board processing during a single orbit. The second contains geometrical information used to locate observations in space and time; one record for each frame in the corresponding FRM file. The columns of the table contains the values of the parameters describing the geometry of the observation for the corresponding frame. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  8. ===========“L1B : LABEL”=========== PDS label has a standard structure that consist of keywords set organised into groups. PDS LABEL label length • RECORD_BYTES • LABEL_RECORDS • FOOTPRINT_POINT_LATITUDE • FOOTPRINT_POINT_LONGITUDE ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  9. ===========“ LABEL Structure”=========== FOOTPRINT_POINT_LATITUDE FOOTPRINT_POINT_LONGITUDE They give an indication of the position of the observations These keywords allow to define each observation present in a “product”. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  10. ===========“ LABEL structure”=========== For example, let ‘s assume a orbit planned in this way: AIS these observations are defined by at least a “start” and an “end” point. FOOTPRINT_POINT_LATITUDE = ((A1LAT, A0LAT, A2LAT), (B1LAT,B0LAT,B2LAT)) FOOTPRINT_POINT_LONGITUDE = ((A1LON, A0LON, A2LON), (B1LON,B0LON,B2LON)) A1 SS3 A0 A2 SS2 B1 SS3 B0 B2 AIS ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  11. =========== Frame Structure =========== 28 Bytes Ancillary Data HEATHER 228 Bytes Auxiliary Data • Ancillary Data describing the instrument settings during data acquisition. • Auxiliary Data rappresent the values of the parameters used in the on-board software processing. The exact content of the auxiliary data depends on the instrument mode. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  12. =========== Frame Structure =========== The number of echoes in the frame varies with the instrument mode and depends on the antenna used to receive the echoes and on the number of different frequencies transmitted by the radar. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  13. =========== Frame Structure =========== The scientific data of a frame are ordered according to the time of acquisition, to the antenna which are receved, by the trasmitted band and by the Doppler filter DIPOLE F1 F2 Doppler Filter -1 0 1 Doppler Filter -1 0 1 PIS 512 byte (16 bit RE) ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  14. =========== Data Product Structure: L2 ========= The L2 Data Product have an identical structure as described for the compressed L1b data product. A Data Product contains all frames acquired using the same instrument mode in tracking (TRK) state, during a single orbit. 28 bytes Ancillary Data 228 bytes Auxiliary Data Scientific DATA PIS All processed echoes are 512 samples long. The processed radar echo is a complex quantity, contained in two vectors of 512 32-bit floating point values, the first of which represents the modulus of the echo, while the second contains the echo phase. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  15. =========== Data Structure: L2 =========== DIPOLE F1 F2 Doppler Filter -1 0 1 Doppler Filter -1 0 1 ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  16. =========== GEO_MARS ========= The main objective of the GEO_MARS file is to describe the geometry associated with a data Product. The geo_mars will describe each observation using a set of “lines” to describe the shape of the footprint. Each line will be defined by identifing two points. The footprint will be reconstructed by joining all the left-hand points to get the left side of the footprint and all the right-hand points to get the right side. The center of that line is defined as the geometrical center point in latitude and longitude, as seen from the instrument. • The GEO_MARS filehas the following information: • Line Description Parameters • Non-geometrical Parameters • Position Generic Parameters • Solar related Parameters • Spacecraft related Parameters • Instrument Viewing related Parameters ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  17. =========== GEO_MARS ========= The GEO_MARS file contains all Information about the orbits of the Data Set and for each orbit there is a number of “line” equal to the number frames. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============

  18. =========== Marsis Data Set: L1b========= “MEX-M-MARSIS-2-EDR-V1.0” • .PDSVOLUME.XML • VOLDESC.CAT • AAREADME.TXT DATA CALIB LABEL INDEX CATALOG DOCUMENT EDRXXXX • FRM….EDR.FMT • GEO_EDR.FMT • DOCINFO.TXT EDRXXXX MARSIS_APID…… These files report currents, temperatures and voltages measured in the instrument during a single orbit. • LOG_EDR_XXXX.CSV • LOG_EDR_XXXX.LBL • MARSIS_APID20_C_XXXX.CSV • MARSIS_APID20_C_XXXX.LBL • MARSIS_APID20_T_XXXX.CSV • MARSIS_APID20_T_XXXX.LBL • MARSIS_APID20_V_XXXX.CSV • MARSIS_APID20_V_XXXX.LBL • GEO_MARS.TAB • GEO_MARS.LBL • INDEX.TAB • INDEX.LBL • CATINFO.TXT • DATASET.CAT • MISSION.CAT • PERSON.CAT • REFERENCE.CAT • RELEASE.CAT • SOFTWARE.CAT • INSTRUMENT.CAT • INSTRUMENT_HOST.CAT LOG_EDR… These files report a number of parameters describing the instrument setup and performance for observations collected during a single orbit. The documentation describes the mission, the spacecraft, the instrument, and the data set. It includes the references to published science papers. The LABEL directory contains the filesFMT extension. The content of these files is the description ,the format and length of the FRM and GEO fields .There is one file for each Data Product file type. The DATA directory contains the FRM and GEO files. Data files are organised into subdirectories, each containing data collected over ten orbits. The Index table are generated by PVV tool and they are provided with detached PDS label files. Also GEO_MARS file is provided with detached PDS label file. The CALIB directory is organized into subdirectories according to the same scheme used for the subdirectories in the DATA directory. The CALIB directory contains files CSV and LBL extension The files LBL describe the fields , including their format and length present in CSV file. ==============="MARSIS' DATA STRUCTURE"===============
