  4. Counselors’ Assignments: • Mrs. Tirjan: • Grade 9 (A-K) • Grade 10 (A-K) • Grade 11 (A-K) • Grade 12 (A-K)

  6. Academic Focus • Emphasis on writing strategies, reading strategies, and problem-solving to improve student performance

  7. Keystone Exams • Grade 11 PSSA’s have been eliminated • Keystone Exams for Algebra I, English Literature, and Biology are now required of all students

  8. Grade 11 Keystones: • All 11th grade students will take the Keystone exams in December • If you do not score proficient, you will need to re-take them in May

  9. Grades 9 and 10 Keystones: • Students will take the exam at the end of the course during the semester they have the course • Exceptions: • If you already had Alg. 1, you will take the exam at the end of Alg. II • If you already had Biology, you will take it in your junior year • All 10th graders will take English Lit.

  10. Special Programs (reminders): • Advanced Placement • Bucks First Credit Union (11-1 T/Th) • Dual Enrollment • Medical Career Pathways • Business Career Pathways • PSD Cyber School • Virtual High School

  11. Special Programs (NEW): • “Blackboard” will be used in ALL English classes • All math classroom will be equipped with “clicker” systems • Cyber Center

  12. Summer Reading Assessments: • Regardless which semester you are scheduled to take English or social studies. • English assessment—Wednesday, 9/12 • Social Studies—Thursday, 9/13 • Science-Friday, 9/14 • If you haven’t already done so, COMPLETE YOUR Reading!

  13. 9th Grade Students: • Clubs/Activities • Freshmen orientation program • Career portfolios • Importance of “acquiring” credit • 4 credits of English and 4 credits of math • If you have a study hall, find a class!

  14. 12th Grade PSSA Results: 2012 PSSA Results: • Writing 92% Proficient or better • Reading 75% Proficient or better • Math 67% Proficient or better • If you did not score proficient, you will need to take a re-test in October.

  15. Student Gov’t Elections: • Applications available starting Monday, Sept. 10th in Room 211—Mrs. Flagg-Detweiler • Due by 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14th • Speeches will be filmed from Sept. 19th-20th • Speeches aired on Sept. 27th • Voting on Sept. 28th

  16. Other Important Info: • Picture Day-Monday, September 10th • College Info. Night-September 13th • Back to School Night-September 18th • Please be sure to return any forms that required a parent’s signature
