    3. Muslim Empires The Ottomans For more than six centuries, from about 1290 until 1922, the Ottoman Empire was one of the world's great powers. Who was their first leader and where did they come from? Hint: check out page 457 Answer: Osman; Northwest corner of Anatolian Peninsula (present day Turkey)
