Metamorphic Rock • Heat and Pressure deep beneath the earth’s surface can change any rock into a metamorphic rock. • Metamorphic mean change • Metamorphic rock are grouped according to how their grains are arranged: • Foliated- grains are arranged in parallel bands or layers • Ex. Slate, gneiss • Nonfoliated-grains are arranged randomly • Marble, quartzite • Uses of metamorphic rocks: • Roofs, buildings, floors, statues, and tombstones
